Fulbright Central VA Chapter / Charlottesville Committee on Foreign Relations Joint Meeting

Every November, the Chapter joins with the CCFR for a combined event with a major speaker on issues of import to global citizens everywhere. Recent speakers have included the international correspondent Walter Pincus, Azizah Y. al-Hibri, a professor of Islamic Jurisprudence, and Andras Szollosi-Nagy, who spoke on the looming problem of available water resources worldwide and Fulbright Scholar and expert on China John Pomfret.

Holiday Dinner

Near the end of the academic semester, alumni and international guests gather for a traditional American offering of Holiday fare.  This has been a very popular event in recent years.

Spring Event

As the weather improves each year, we can’t help but celebrate it. We look for cultural events as part of this, and especially as a way to involve our members in the whole region. To that end, we have held events at two local wineries owned by Fulbright alumni. In 2014, we took members down to Farmville, VA, to visit the Moton Museum, which commemorates the Civil Rights Struggle in one of the very high schools where desegregation was struck down.

Monthly Socials

The first Wednesday of each month, we gather at SEDONA tap house at about 5:00 PM for a chance to relax, catch up on each others’ lives, and to hear from our international guests how they are experiencing life in central Virginia.
